Inerrancy Resolution
by T. C. Pinckney Vol. IV, No. 9, December 1991
Concord Baptist Association met on 29 October at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Blackridge, Virginia, for its annual session. Dr. Gerald F. Stanley, pastor of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Emporia, presented a Resolution on Biblical Inerrancy. After being reported out by the resolutions committee and following discussion, the resolution was passed by an estimated 90-10 vote. It reads:
"Be it resolved that we, the messengers of the Concord Baptist Association of Virginia, meeting in our 159th annual session, do hereby reaffirm our commitment to the inerrancy of the Bible as expressed in the Baptist Faith and Message which was adopted by the messengers of the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in annual session in Kansas City, Missouri in 1963.
"The statement on the Scriptures reads as follows:
"The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and TRUTH WITHOUT ANY MIXTURE OF ERROR, for its matter, It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ."
The good people of Concord Association are to be congratulated upon this forthright restatement of their belief in the perfection of God's written Word.
