Disney Boycott Needed
Vol. X, No. 8, Sep/Oct 1997
[Following is a letter to the editor printed in the Baptist Messenger of Oklahoma.]
Over the last several months I have had correspondence with a responsible person at the Walt Disney Companies regarding their pro-homosexual stance.
While their initial letter tried to make their position seem moderate, my subsequent letter pointing out their inconsistency (for instance, granting “domestic partner” status to same-sex relationships they do not grant to heterosexual relationships).
This was answered by a very terse letter granting me the “right” to boycott their products and services. Basically, my interpretation of the position of the Walt Disney Companies in this matter is that they neither care nor are they concerned whether I and other conservative Christians give them our business or not.
Several months ago, I instructed the plan administrators of various retirement and other investment plans over which I have administrative authority to drop all Disney investments.
I would suggest that all Christians seriously boycott Disney and all Disney companies and products (such as Walt Disney Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures/Productions, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Miramax, Dimension Films) and send this company the same message we sent KMart when they refused to exercise social responsibility for their anti-biblical actions.
