Vestal to Be Nominated Next CBF Leader
Vol. IX, No. 8, September 1996
Daniel Vestal will be nominated the replacement for Cecil Sherman as coordinator of the CBF. Vestal, 51, pastor of Tallowood BC, Houston, will be voted on by the 84-member Coordinating Council during its September 26-28 meeting in Atlanta. Vestal ran for SBC president in 1989 and 1990. He called the August 23-25, 1990 meeting which resulted in the founding of the “Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.” Reportedly Vestal turned down the coordinator’s job when it was offered him in February, but later changed his mind, and at the CBF June general assembly asked search committee chairman Carolyn Crumpler to be reconsidered.
