Southeastern to Offer One-Day-a-Week Classes

Vol. VI, No. 7, September 1993

Starting this fall, Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, will offer one-day-a-week courses designed for students with limited time for on-campus study. This will make it possible for a student to carry a full academic load while spending only one day per week at the seminary. Many of the courses will be offered at night. Southeastern registrar Sheldon Alexander pointed out that two of Southeastern's foundational courses, "Systematic Theology" and "Introduction to the Old Testament," are among those to be offered in the new evening schedule. Other courses include "The Minister, the Church, and the Law," "Christian Family Life," "Marriage Enrichment," and "Seminary Choir." Students can take other foundational courses in addition to many electives by spending all day Tuesday or Thursday on campus. There will also be several one day courses offered on Wednesday this fall. The one-day course schedule includes over thirty courses in the areas of theology, ministry, education, history, and biblical studies. Enrollment information is available through the Office of Admissions, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, P.O. Box 1889, Wake Forest, NC 27588. The phone number is 1-800-284-6317 or 919-556-3101. [SE release]

Southeastern Debt Free

Vol. VI, No. 7, September 1993

They are burning the mortgage at Southeastern Seminary. Southeastern President Paige Patterson announced the payoff of a one million dollar loan that will, in turn, save the seminary nearly half a million dollars in interest payments over the next eight years. Southeastern owed about $993,000 on a loan used to build student family townhouses completed in 1981. Paul Fletcher, vice president for financial affairs, said the drop in interest rates made it prudent to pay off the loan, adding that this will increase the seminary's cash flow nearly $55,000 annually. President Patterson said, "We are delighted the institution is debt free. This is something we did not see as a possibility until 1996, and it represents the very gracious blessings of the Lord upon us this year." [SE release]
