Welcome Steve Bradshaw to the SBCV

Vol. XVI, No. 7, August 2003

The headline on the front cover of the January/February 1999 issue of LifeWay’s Facts and Trends magazine read, “Field of Church Dreams.” The article highlighted a Virginia church in rural Southampton County that was established in 1806 in the middle of a crop field and has been pastored by Rev. Steve Bradshaw for the last 14 years.

In 1989, Tucker Swamp Baptist Church in Zuni had 220 members with 75 in average attendance. In the past 14 years, they have baptized over 250 people and now have a total membership of 800 with approximately 400 weekly worshippers.

The church has built new additions or renovated the existing facilities six times since 1989 to accommodate the numerical growth and expanded ministries. Rev. Bradshaw watched the church move from a single dimension to multiple dimensions. As a result of church members discovering their spiritual gifts and using them, the whole church was edified. Members have become part of a work that is much bigger than themselves, their Sunday School classes, or even their church. They are a part of Kingdom work.

Rev. Steve Bradshaw has recently joined the staff of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia as the Church Enrichment Consultant for the Central-West Area. He brings a wealth of effective, rural ministry experience to this position. Steve is the first point of contact for the Central-West Area. He is responsible for fulfilling the first two SBCV Strategic Objectives: Strengthening Existing Churches and Supporting Pastors, Staff, and Their Families.

Steve has a Masters Degree in Divinity/Christian Education from Southeastern Seminary and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Radford University. He is married to Jan (formerly Jan Braswell), and they have three children: Josh - 13, Bryce - 9, Hannah - 5

His ministry goals are to win people to Jesus, nurture them into discipleship, and equip them for service and ministry; to be faithful to God’s great commission and commandment; to be willing for God to enlarge his territory; and to be available for God to do an extraordinary work through him.

Steve’s life verse is “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Phil. 4:13 KJV.
