BGAV Cuts Budget $400,000

                                                                                                                         Vol. X, No. 8, Sep/Oct 1997

The Religious Herald reports (25 September, p 5) that in an effort to reduce the Virginia Baptist Mission Board’s 1998 budget three staff members have taken on new assignments and the print shop has been closed, eliminating three full-time and two part-time positions. The article quotes Dr. Reginald McDonough, VBMB executive director: “Cooperative Program monies for the Mission Board have been basically flat for about five years. In looking at the ‘98 budget it appears that we will need to reduce expenditures by about $400,000 in order to operate in the black. We have tried to shift things around and use retirements to compensate for the increase in fixed costs. Now we have come to the place that we need to take additional steps ...” Readers will want to contrast this report with information on the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia budget in the article in this issue reporting on the SBCV convention.
