Reccord Discusses His New Book, Beneath the Surface

Vol. XV, No. 8, September 2002

"Too many lives are like the Titanic," said Reccord, president of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. "These are avoidable tragedies caused by overly confident captains, fast paced lifestyles, foolish priorities, unstable structures, and dangers out of sight."

As president of an organization spanning North America with more than five thousand missionaries, twenty-five hundred chaplains and literally millions of lay people, Reccord hears about shipwrecked lives with alarming frequency. "Each relationship contained common threads, points of vulnerability, that shouldn't have been lethal, if those involved had been on guard," said Reccord.

Beneath the Surface explores these common threads by using the biblical stories of Joseph and David to compare and contrast how two of God's men grappled with temptation. Reccord reveals Satan's three-step process of temptation and how, combined with human wrong thinking, we may experience a failure to guard our hearts.

Published by Broadman & Holman, Beneath the Surface is available in Christian bookstores or in the FamilyNet Store at www.FamilyNetRadio.com. Proceeds from the sales of the book go the World Changers, a program that provides Christian youth and adults with opportunities to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others through practical learning experiences that teach servanthood and personal commitment to missions. In addition to serving as president of the North American Mission Board, Reccord speaks and travels frequently. His first book Forged by Fire was a look at the life of Joseph.
