BGAV & UR, Follow-Up
Vol. XII, No. 6, June/July 1999
The May Baptist Banner carried an article describing the recent University of Richmond decision to include sexual orientation (read homosexuality) in its non-discrimination policy, but noting that last year the BGAV commended to churches a statement that “homosexual behavior is sinful and unacceptable to Christians.” UR currently receives about $230,000 annually from the BGAV budget., primarily to help pay the costs for students at UR from churches affiliated with the BGAV. Since then a Baptist Press story by Robert Dilday notes that the Virginia Baptist Mission Board’s executive committee has established a seven-member task force to examine ties between UR and the BGAV. The task force's findings, including any recommendations it proposes, will be presented at the board's Oct. 12-13 meeting. Based on those findings, the board may choose to offer recommendations to the Baptist General Association of Virginia at its annual meeting, Nov. 9-10 in Richmond. [BP]
