There is an interesting and accurate statement in footnote 9 on page 52 of The Struggle for the Soul of the Southern Baptist Convention, edited by Walter B. Shurden, a well-known “moderate” and author of the footnote. “Virginia, e.g., is by any count the most liberal of all Southern Baptist states.” Please note that these are the words of a very active “moderate”, not of one of their “fundamentalist” opponents.
