Our Constitutional Convention, Y’all Come!

Vol. VI, No. 6, August 1993

Readers will recall that participants at a state-wide conservative meeting at Old Forest Road Baptist Church, Lynchburg on 28 January 1993, voted to form a fellowship, the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV). They also elected interim officers and other members of an executive committee, and charged them to draft a constitution and bylaws. The committee was instructed to call another state-wide meeting within a year from the January date to (1) act on a proposed constitution and bylaws, (2) elect officers under the new constitution, and (3) take any other actions required by the new documents.

Good News! The time has come. The meeting will be held at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, 8701 Ridge Road, Richmond, beginning on Thursday, 2 September, at 1:00 p.m. Specifically, the meeting will (1) act upon the proposed constitution and bylaws (presumably adopting them, possibly after amendments), (2) elect officers and other members of the executive committee under the new documents, and (3) take action on any other motions from the executive committee and/or from the floor. Reports will also be presented from the other workgroups which have been functioning since our 28 January meeting.

Make plans now to attend this critically important meeting in Richmond on Thursday, 2 September at 1:00 p.m. Grove Avenue Church is located at the corner of Ridge Road and Parham Road. From I-64 take exit 37 south on Parham to Ridge, turn onto Ridge (there is only one direction possible; Ridge dead-ends at Parham) and then turn right immediately into the church parking lot.

Please be on time. There is much to do.
