SBC Today Changing Name and Focus
Vol. IV, No. 6, August 1991
Jack Harwell, editor of the liberal newspaper SBC Today, has announced the eight year old publication will be renamed Baptists Today effective 1 August 1991. Ann Roebuck, chairman of the directors, said, "The change ... reflects an intention of the publication to broaden its coverage ... to be more inclusive of all Baptists within the world. Additionally, the change reflects a closer tie of the newspaper to the newly formed Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and to the Southern Baptist Alliance." Harwell noted, "As a starter, we are planning a series of articles on the major Baptist groups within the United States. In addition, we will seek to broaden the coverage to other than Baptists..." He writes, "We have entered into a close relationship with the new Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, to serve as their primary vehicle of communications with their supporters. ... And we are still maintaining our strong ties with Southern Baptist Alliance, SBC Women in Ministry, and Baptist Peace Fellowship. [From Baptists Today fund-raising brochure.]
