Praise God! ...
Vol. I, No. 6, December 1988
We have many things for which to praise our great God: His power, His love, His grace, His justice. Another was impressed on your editor this week when a friend of many years was passing through town and stopped to talk.
Harry is an active, conservative United Methodist layman. As he described his efforts to move his denomination to a more conservative stance, I was struck by the Lord's great blessing on our Southern Baptist polity. Harry told of votes of 699 to 1 where he alone stood on the Word. He and his friends have been fighting liberalism for perhaps forty years. Yet because of that denomination's hierarchical and connectional structure his best hope is to keep it from going any more liberal. You will recall that this last summer their General Conference narrowly defeated a motion to approve ordaining homosexuals.
What a wonderful contrast that Southern Baptists are witnessing our convention's return from the very brink of liberal apostasy. What a joy that God has used faithful, loving, dedicated Christians like Adrian Rogers, Charles Stanley, Bailey Smith, Paige Patterson, and Paul Pressler to lead our convention back to its historic Christ-honoring position.
Every conservative should be rejoicing and enthusiastically supporting our Cooperative Program. And we must also be faithful in attending our national and state conventions so that our voices will continue to be heard and our prayers answered.
