A Reader’s Comments on Schools and Character
Vol. XXII, No. 6, June/July 2009
I read with interest your articles, "Creating a New "Public" School System, A Challenge for the Body of Christ" and "Alarming Facts, Trends, and Statistics" in The Baptist Banner and wish to comment.
Public school education now is nothing like when I was a child in the 1960's. The public school system has changed much in the past 46 years and it will continue to get worse. I wholeheartedly agree for the need of Christian schools. I don't understand why many in our churches do not see the need. Do they have blinders on? Do they not realize what is being taught in the schools? Do they not care?
I could not imagine a homosexual or lesbian teacher in school when I was growing up. It would not have happened. Now it happens all the time. And these gays are "offended" when someone has a traditional family. The school systems are requiring the reading of books such as "Heather Has Two Mommies" and "Daddy's Roommate." Parents no longer have a say in what their children are taught. Children are not brought up in church or with Godly parents who know what the truth is.
There is an organization out of San Francisco called the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), whose motto is, "Sex before eight or else it's too late." It makes me sick to my stomach to even mention it. They have won Supreme Court approval that homosexuality is no longer a crime. http://www.nambla.org/law.htm Now they are working to have pedophilia legalized. If this happens public schools will be indoctrinating this mindset to the students. Who or what will stop them?
Children are no longer allowed to be children. They are required to learn things that are way over their heads. They are learning things that should not be taught in schools. They are dressing in ways they shouldn't, especially the girls. Dolls that are marketed to children now show promiscuous dress. Girls are modeling the way their dolls dress. They want the short skirts and makeup even at a young age. Compare an Amish child at 12 and what some of our young females are wearing and the results are shocking.
Sex is no longer a private matter. It has been taken out of the bedroom. Movies and prime time show sex on a regular basis. When I lived in Missouri our church had VBS and many of the unchurched children in town came. One young girl, age 6, performed a partial strip tease on the altar during the children's night. When I asked her WHERE she learned that, she just shrugged her shoulders, like it was no big deal, and said, "TV".
Children are having children. The public schools are distributing condoms without parental permission. Abortions are being performed without parental permission. There is a high percentage of child abuse among children who keep their children. They don't want to be bothered with taking care of them. And they don't know how. God is telling us to wake up and take back our country. Christian schools would help bring about that goal.
A large majority of the U.S. population is under the age of 45. This same group, which should be training up a child in the way he should go, is allowing children to learn alternative lifestyles, because that is what they were taught in school. These parents are not being parents to their children, instead being best friends. They view Conservative Christianity as fundamentalism and don't want it for themselves or their children. When this group accepts Jesus, churches need to redefine to them what acceptable Christian behavior is.
I used to think fundamentalism was something to stay away from. Now I embrace it as I feel God's way is the only way. How can society change the Bible to suit themselves? How can society look down on Conservative Christians for following the Bible and not the way of the world? Yet they do it every day.
I am sorry this is so long. I can't say anything in one paragraph. I believe God is not happy with what is transpiring in our country. Our nation has fallen away from God. It has turned its back on Him. They have taken Him out of the schools and allowed crime to run rampant. One only has to read CNN.com to get a good dose of depression as to what has transpired by taking God out of the courts and allowing anything and everything.
Look at the Greek and Roman empires. Once they were the greatest nations on earth. But they sacrificed their children (like the U.S. does with abortion) and they practiced homosexuality, and they turned their backs on God. Where are they now? Where will the U.S. be if they continue to allow sin to flourish?
I used to keep silent on my thoughts, but I feel God is telling me to speak out. And like the Tom Petty song (talk about secular) says, "I Won't Back Down, I'll Stand My Ground..." I am just a messenger...To God Be The Glory.
