Virginia $ to SBC

Vol. XI, No. 4, April 1998

Are you a Southern Baptist? If so, you will be interested in one “bottom line” item from the first three months of the fiscal year reports from the BGAV and SBCV. The BGAV in its Nov-Feb report shows that contributions to the Southern Baptist Convention Cooperative Program decreased $195,466. SBCV gifts to the SBC CP during the first three months of its fiscal year (Oct-Dec) increased $149,651. Of course, because roughly 88% of the churches belong to the BGAV the total dollars going to the SBC from the BGAV ($700,097) is larger than from the SBCV ($321,157), but these figures show that with approximately 12% of the churches, the SBCV contributed 31.45% and the BGAV with about 88% of the churches gave 68.55% of the CP funds going to the SBC over the first three months of the respective fiscal years. Now money flow is not everything, but it is one important indicator of values. Based upon these dollar figures, which of our two Virginia state conventions would you say is more supportive of the Southern Baptist Convention and its ministries? [TCP]
