Leavell Retirement Intent
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's president Landrum P. Leavell, 67, who is in his 20th year of service at the seminary, responded 4 April to an earlier report in Associated Baptist Press (the "moderate" press agency) concerning his retirement. He stated, "At our last trustee meeting, I reaffirmed what I have said for several years. ... if I am living, I do not intend to remain as president beyond age 70. Our trustees gave me unanimous affirmation to remain as president until that time, or at anytime prior to that to announce my retirement." NOBTS began its 76th year with the largest fall enrollment ever, a 28% increase. That increase reflects an 88% growth in the seminary's baccalaureate and pre-baccalaureate degree programs. [BP]
Ferguson Retirement Plan
Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary president Milton Ferguson announced to his trustees on 18 April that he plans to retire in 1996. He emphasized in his statement that this is entirely his own decision and that he has been under no pressure from any source. Trustees plan to appoint a search committee during their October 1994 meeting. [personal contact]
