Refuting Evolution: A Review

Refuting Evolution is a new book by Jonathan D. Sarfati and published by Master Books, 139 pages. In it Sarfati analyzes and critiques the National Academy of Sciences educator's guidebook, Teaching about Evolution and the Nature of Science. Though brief and written for the layman, Refuting Evolution does a remarkably convincing job of demonstrating and documenting the biased, propagandistic approach of the National Academy of Sciences. As just one example, I quote a passage cited on p. 17, an admission by world-renowned geneticist, self-proclaimed Marxist, and champion of neo-Darwinism Professor Richard Lewontin:

We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of life and health, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counter-intuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is an absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.

What Lewontin says here is, "Don't bother me with facts. My mind is made up. "We have a prior commitment ... to materialism. ... we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door." Thus, Lewontin claims the honorable mantle of science (i.e., "knowledge") as camouflage for his pagan devotion to materialism. He knowingly refuses to acknowledge God.

One more striking quote (p. 88) deals with the scientific evidence that all humans are descended from a single human female:

Evolutionists believed they had clear proof against the biblical account, because 'Mitochondrial Eve' supposedly lived 200,000 years ago. However, recent evidence shows that mitochondrial DNA mutates far faster than previously thought. If this new evidence is applied to 'Mitochondrial Eve,' it indicates that she would have lived only 6,000-6,500 years ago. Of course, this is perfectly consistent with the biblically indicated age of the 'mother of all living' (Gen. 3:20), but an enigma for evolution/long age beliefs.

In short, this is perhaps the best book on creation/evolution I have read. It is brief and an easy read. You can perhaps find it at your Christian book store or order it from Answers in Genesis, P.O. Box 6330, Florence, KY 41022 or call 800-778-3390.
