The August 2005 Banner listed Virginians elected to various Southern Baptist boards of trustees. Among those we noted, “J. Michael Palmer, pastor Green Ridge BC, Roanoke, re-elected to a second five-year term” at Southeastern Seminary. This was not quite correct.

Mike had served two years completing the term of a trustee who had resigned. The rules are that if a trustee serves less than half a term, he may be elected to two more full, five-year terms (assuming the SBC Nominating Committee members so recommend). Thus Mike will be eligible for a second five-year term after the one he is just beginning is completed. TCP
