CBF: An Insider’s View

The following is presented simply as a matter of interest. It is an excerpt from an article printed in the 1 September 2005 Religious Herald and written by a former Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionary now living in Virginia. His comments may or may not be accurate, but as the views of a long-term CBF member, they merit our consideration.

“Look closely at our movement. Growth in new people is gone. Growth in sending new missionaries has stagnated for at least 10 years. Many (if not most) CBF-related churches are not increasing their financial support and give dually to the SBC. Our senior citizens are the ones who provide the main support for CBF. Legacy giving and regular giving generally comes [sic] from the ‘builder’ generation. There is no energy for the CBF among young adults or even middle-aged adults. ...”

If this author’s judgments are correct, it does not bode well for CBF.
