Unveiling the End Times in Our Time, by Adrian Rogers
reviewed by T. C. Pinckney Vol. XVIII, No. 7, August 2005
By now you have probably learned that Dr. Adrian Rogers has retired from the pastorate of Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, TN. How often has this dean of Southern Baptist pastors thrilled our souls as he preached at the SBC Pastors’ Conference or we have tuned in to his radio ministry. While he assures us that his ministry will continue, in one sense he has left us a wonderful parting gift in Unveiling the End Times.
Delivered in his personal, straightforward, engaging style, Unveiling is a study of what the subtitle terms “The Triumph of the Lamb in Revelation”. The book in not a verse by verse exposition of Revelation. Instead, Dr. Rogers explains the symbolism of Revelation, applies it to today’s political-economic world, and draws interesting conclusions.
"The Book of Revelation is a great treasure, but it can be a source of fanaticism and foolishness to the careless or carnal reader," he said. "The book was given to engender faith, not fanaticism or foolishness.
"Revelation should be read and studied with an extra measure of humility. I am a convinced pretribulation, premillennialist, but many who come from that same basic approach will still disagree with me at various points. (A pretribulation, premillennialist view is belief in a seven-year tribulation period, followed by a 1,000-year reign of Christ on Earth.)
"There are some things in the Book of Revelation that will not be known until they are unfolded," he adds. "Some prophecies await fulfillment for understanding.
"The bottom line, however, is this: Jesus is coming, and I am certain of that and very, very glad. I have resigned from the program committee and have moved over to the welcoming committee. Even so, come Lord Jesus!"
