Peace Committee on Inerrancy
Vol. VII, No. 6, August 1994
The following passage is from the 1987 report of the Southern Baptist Peace Committee, chaired by Dr. Charles Fuller, to the SBC.
"We, as a Peace Committee have found that most Southern Baptists see ‘truth without any mixture of error for its matter' as meaning, for example, that
(1) They believe in the direct creation of mankind and therefore believe Adam and Eve were real persons.
(2) They believe its named authors did indeed write the biblical books attributed to them by those books.
(3) They believe the miracles described in the Scriptures did indeed occur as supernatural events in history.
(4) They believe that the historical narratives given by biblical authors are indeed accurate and reliable as given by those authors.
"We call upon Southern Baptist institutions to recognize the great number of Southern Baptists who believe this interpretation of our confessional statement and, in the future, to build their professional staffs and faculties from those who clearly reflect such dominant convictions and beliefs by Southern Baptists at large."
