The University of Richmond installed Daphne L. Burt as chaplain on September 7, 2004. According to the September 23, 2004 Religious Herald (p. 5), “Burt said that she modified the standard installation service, originally Christian-focused, to incorporate Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh elements.” Burt was also quoted as saying, “While I am unabashedly Christian on Sundays, the joy of my life is making sure everybody has an opportunity to find spiritual community and support, whether they are religious or not.”

Comment (by Jeff Riddle): What would Chaplain Burt make of Jesus’ claim in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me?”

Comment by TCP: Perhaps someone should point out to Miss Burt that Jesus admits no half-hearted commitments, much less one-seventh ones. It is impossible to be a Christian only one day a week. If one is Christian the “joy of my life” will be to glorify Jesus every day in every way possible, and one of those ways is to win people to Jesus from the false religions which are taking them straight to hell.
