VA Appointments & Nominations for SBC Boards & Committees
by T. C. Pinckney Vol. XVI, No. 5, May/June 2003
Each year about this time the SBC president announces his appointments to various convention committees and the Committee on Nominations publishes the names of those who are to nominated at the 17-18 June convention in Phoenix. While the complete lists are too long to publish in The Banner, here are the names of the Virginia Southern Baptists named for these important responsibilities.
Nominees for election:
Executive Committee: John R. Marks, pastor, Kingsland BC, Richmond, to a partial term expiring 2005 due to resignation of the incumbent.
Annuity Board: Robert H. Harris, layman, Mt. Pleasant BC, Colonial Heights, full term expiring 2007.
International Mission Board: Paulette D. Blankinship, lay, Smith Memorial BC, Williamsburg, for second term.
Southeastern Seminary: J. Michael palmer, pastor, Green ridge BC, Roanoke, to a partial term (due to a resignation) expiring in 2005.
Committee appointments:
Committee on Committees: Michael A. Ray, layman, Liberty BC, Hampton, and Steven W. Smith, pastor, Salem BC, Richmond. This committee selects two folks from each state to nominate to the following June convention (in this case June 2004) for service on the Committee on Nominations. Because the trustees of the various SBC boards & commissions select senior staff and make policy, this Com. on Committees/Com. on Nominations process is absolutely crucial to the doctrinal health of the SBC.
Tellers: Gary Brinson, associate pastor, London Bridge BC, Virginia Beach, and Barbara Holmes, lay, church secretary, Oakton BC, Chantilly.
Credentials: Don Paxton, pastor, Rosedale BC, Abingdon.
