Forest Lawn Joins SBCV
by T. C. Pinckney Vol. XV, No. 10, Nov/Dec. 2002
Now this by-line may be a little misleading because only these introductory and the concluding remarks are mine. The body of this article is simply reprinted from the March 2002 issue of Forest Lawn News, the newsletter of Forest Lawn Baptist Church, Danville, Virginia. I bring the article to you because it cuts right to the meat of the issue and does it so succinctly. Here is the text of the Forest Lawn article. TCP
At February’s business meeting Forest Lawn voted unanimously to leave the Baptist General Association of Virginia and join the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia.
After months of prayer and education that included a representative from each of the two state conventions coming to Forest Lawn for a presentation and question and answer period the decision was made in a unified and decisive fashion.
At the heart of this decision was the fact that the Baptist General Association of Virginia has for some time been supporting causes and organizations that are contrary to our beliefs. The B.G.A.V. supports colleges and universities that teach the Bible is not the true, inerrant Word of God.
The Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia began as a reaction to this liberal leaning of the B.G.A.V. The S.B.C.V. supports and affirms that the Bible is true, without error, and is the Word of God.
Forest Lawn leaves the B.G.A.V. after 50 years not for personal or political reasons. We leave the B.G.A.V. and join the S.B.C.V. as a stand for the inerrant, inspired Word of God. We go to the S.B.C.V. because we believe that is where the Lord wants us at this time.

There it is in a nutshell. Has your church faced this issue yet? If not, isn’t it about time?
