Caffey for President!
Vol. III, No. 6, September 1990
Custom and tradition can offer an important sense of security and continuity, or they can become stultifying and even compete with God's Word as ruling authorities. One of the more beneficial customs we have here in Virginia is that we alternate the BGAV presidency between pastors and laymen. This year it is time to nominate a layman.
The Banner has learned that the name of Dr. Fred B. Caffey will be placed in nomination for president during the state convention in Richmond November 13-14. Dr. Caffey, a dentist, lives in Martinsville where he and his wife, Ginger, are members of First Baptist Church.
Dr. Caffey has been active in his local church having served, among other positions, as Training Union director, deacon chairman, adult Sunday School teacher, and choir member. Fred has served the Henry County Baptist Association as moderator and chairman of their world missions conference. He is completing his second term as a trustee of Virginia Baptist Homes. At the June 1989 Southern Baptist Convention he was elected to be a trustee of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He has also served as a short term dental missionary on Saint Lucia in the Caribbean.
Fred is committed to evangelism, a Christian who believes the Bible is authoritative and infallible on any subject it addresses. He has a loving Christian heart and spirit combined with the firmness of faith and character to stand, not waver, whenever God's Word or the principles it establishes are attacked.
If this is the type man you want as BGAV president, come to Richmond in November and vote. If it is important to you that this type Christian be elected, come to Richmond and vote. If you think God wants to turn Virginia Baptists around, come and vote. Not only you, but talk to your friends and get them to come as messengers. Every conservative church should work to send its maximum number of messengers.
If you don't come, you can't vote. If you don't vote, we can't win. If we don't win, the BGAV will continue as before. It's your responsibility, your decision. See you in Richmond.
