Church breaks ties with SBC

Vol. XII, No. 4, April 1999

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, comes this item: A Baptist congregation has decided to sever ties with the Southern Baptist Convention after years of unhappiness over the denomination's increasingly conservative policies. Members of Wake Forest Baptist Church voted in January to end its affiliation with the SBC, but the congregation didn't make the vote public until Tuesday due to recent publicity over its stand on same-sex "marriages."

[Editorial Comment: We may decry the anti-biblical stance of this church regarding homosexuality, but we should also recognize that separating from the SBC was an honorable thing for them to do. When differences are deep and agreement on biblical bases impossible, separation is in the interest of all parties and of God's work. TCP]
