Landlords Win
Vol. VI, No. 4, May 1993
In a victory for Christian landlords, the Superior court of Franklin County, MA, ruled landlords can refuse to rent to couples who cohabit without benefit of marriage. American Family Association Law Center attorney Nikolas Nikas, who represented the devout Roman Catholic landlords, said, "This is a major breakthrough for the rights of Christian landlords. The state cannot bludgeon Christians into violating their religious rights without running afoul of constitutional safeguards." [Word & Way]
