Associated Baptist Press
Vol. IV, No. 4, May 1991
The 3 May issue of SBC Today reports that Greg Warner, associate editor of The Florida Baptist Witness has been named the first full-time editor of ABP effective 1 May. You will recall that ABP is the press service formed by moderates and liberals because of their dissatisfaction that two of their strong supporters were fired from the top positions at Baptist Press, our official SBC press agency, for being biased in favor of moderate/liberal views.
SBC Today also notes that one of the dismissed editors, Dan Martin, "is deeply disappointed" not to have been selected as permanent ABP editor. Reportedly the ABP "board of directors felt he had been too outspoken in his remarks about being fired from Baptist Press to be perceived as objective with ABP."
Comment: Isn't it interesting that Dan Martin who was made out in the liberal press to be. a martyr slain in the cause of objective reporting is now judged by the very same people not to have a reputation for objectivity adequate to qualify him to manage the press service established as a result of his dismissal from Baptist Press?
