Review: Culture Shift by Al Mohler

reviewed by   T. C. Pinckney                                                                                                                         Vol. XXI, No. 4, April 2008

This small book (4.25" x 7.25", 160 pages) is an easy, quick read but rewardingly insightful. In twenty brief chapters Dr. Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, discusses the primary cultural issues facing us today. Some examples: The Supreme Court on Religion, Offendedness, Torture and Terror, Needed: An Exit Strategy from Public Schools, Is Abortion a Moral Issue?, Are We Raising a Nation of Wimps?

The introductory pages contain endorsements by John Piper, C. J. Mahaney, Timothy George, David S. Dockery, James Merritt, and Daniel L. Akin. That list alone should convince you it is well worth reading.

Every true Christian must be aware of the serious challenges facing our culture. If we avoid thinking seriously about them, we will, quite simply, no longer live as Christians. Neither can we evade the culture. It seeps into everything we do, see, hear. And of course, if we simply embrace it, we are in direct conflict with the teachings of Christ.

Read Culture Shift. Think seriously about the issues Mohler raises. Act on them.
