Episcopalians Split over Female Priests

The Washington Times of 24 December reports that conservative Episcopalians, including several bishops, announced they had set up the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America (PECUSA). For the last 20 years the Episcopal Church, which has about 2.5 million members, has ordained women priests without requiring all congregations to accept them, but last year began to require such acceptance. Bishop Alex Dickson, a member of the PECUSA board of trustees, said, “We intend to ensure that there remains in the United States a church which upholds and propagates the historic faith and order ...”
