Check The Banner Website

If you haven’t done so recently, check out The Baptist Banner website at members.cox.net/thebaptistbanner I have tried to make it as helpful and informative as possible. Here’s a summary of what you’ll find:

– Going to the above web address takes you to our home page. There you find three brief introductory paragraphs which touch on our purpose, organizational relationships, and need for financial support.

– Just below these paragraphs are nine links:

1. Current Issue: This link takes you to an index page listing all the articles in the most recent issue. Clicking the title of any article takes you to its text. This link may be particularly useful if you want to refer someone who doesn’t get The Banner to a specific current article.

2. Articles from Past Issues: This is our archive. The link takes you to a topical index page which lists 26 topics in alphabetical order, starting with “Abortion” and running through “Theology”. Examples of other topics are: BGAV, SBCV, SBC, Homosexuality, Liberal Groups, Family, Marriage, Missions, and Home Schooling. [Note: The archive is a work in progress. There are hundreds of articles available, but other hundreds yet to post. I am adding to them as time permits.] When you click on a topic, you are taken to the index page for that subject. There you find all available articles listed with the most recent year first, next most recent year below, etc. Each article’s entry shows its full name and the month and year it was published.

3. Seminary in Apostasy: The journal of a young man called to the ministry by God who – at the time knowing absolutely nothing about the liberal-conservative struggle within the SBC and living in Richmond – decided to attend BTSR (the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond). Read the journal he kept while there and experience his gradual awakening to spiritual warfare.

4. Southern Baptist Differences: This three page summary article is specifically designed for churches and individuals faced with the question whether to support the older Baptist General Association of Virginia or the new Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. Within those three pages are 27 numbered links to backup articles. As you read the primary article, if you wish more information on a particular subject, click the link in that paragraph and you will be taken to the backup. Some backups are brief, perhaps only a couple of paragraphs; some are several pages. All are informative.

5. Interim and Supply Pastors: Does your church need a pastor to serve as interim or supply? Go here to find Bible-believing pastors led to such a ministry. Each entry provides you with the pastor’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address (if he has one), and the distance he is willing to drive from his home to serve at a church. By comparing where he lives, where your church is, the intervening distance, and his radius of service, you can quickly cut the list down to those men who are actual prospects for your church.

6. SBCV Children’s Camp: Information about this summer’s Children’s Camp.

7. SBCV Youth Camp: Information about this summer’s Youth Camp.

[Note: These last two links are temporary. From time to time I expect they will be replaced with other helpful but temporary links.]

8. Links: This page supplies you with links to other good web sites, including my church, the SBC, SBCV, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, Southeastern Seminary, Southern Seminary, Liberty University, Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, Focus on the Family, Answers in Genesis, and the American Family Association. In the future I will probably expand this list.

9. Advertizing in The Banner: Complete information on advertizing, covering: cost, various acceptable formats, deadlines, where to submit your ads, and when I bill you.
