A Call to Prayer for Romania
by Phyllis Amis Randall Vol. IX, No. 3, March 1996
[Phyllis Randall (Mrs. Clifford W) is a trustee of the SBC Foreign Mission Board from Virginia and is chairman of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia (SBCV) Missions Committee.]
The Missions Committee of the SBCV is currently consulting with the Foreign Missions Board (FMB) and prayerfully considering possible projects for pastors anti church members in Romania. We ask you to begin to pray about what God would have you do. Can you preach? Do you sing? Can your youth choir sing? Do you saw, hammer, or lay block? Can you share your testimony? Can you give money so that others can go? Can you talk to people on the street and share about Jesus? Can you pray? Do you like new experiences and want to he an encouragement for your brothers and sisters in the Lord? Do you want to go where God is at work? Begin now to pray and save for the experience of a lifetime with other Virginia Southern Baptists as we organize to become TEAM VIRGINIA!
Scripture tells us that those who equip share the reward with those who go, but we want YOU to have the life changing opportunity of BEING THERE! There is NOTHING like seeing God come alive to people who have lived in darkness. Some things you need to know as you begin praying:
Under one of Communism's most oppressive and cruel regimes, the 1990 revolution and two elections have not unseated the communist leaders. There is anti-minority nationalism against Hungarians (7.9% of the population) and Gypsies (9%).
Religious freedom has been promised, but under government registry it is easy for the government to manipulate denominations and evangelism.
Predominately Orthodox Christian historically (69.5% of pop.), evangelical Christians have been used of God to win many, but the majority of those who seek the Lord are not being integrated into Bible believing congregations.
Bible training for existing and future leaders is the greatest need. Ninety percent of the churches have no pastor. Most pastors have little of no theological training.
Foreign missions provide a spiritual lifeline to believers providing Bibles, Christian literature, and practical help. Long-term international ministry to the up building of the Church is the ongoing need.
Pray that TEAM VIRGINIA will have a VISION FOR ROMANIA that will make a difference. Y0U can have a part. BEGIN TO PRAY "What would you have me do, Lord?" And prepare yourself to say "Here am I, send me."
