Red Alert, Christians!
Vol. VII, No. 3, April 1994
[Condensed from The Washington Times, 5 March 1994, p. A4]
The Freedom from Religion Foundation sought a court order barring Gov. Roy Romer, Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, and District Attorney Bill Ritter from appearing and speaking at a prayer luncheon on 4 March. Denver District Judge Larry Naves denied the request saying the officials would not be using political power for religious purposes by appearing.
Robert Tiernan, attorney for the Freedom from Religion Foundation, said, "This better stop or the United States of America is going to be a theocracy. Getting wrapped up in prayer in this country is becoming a political necessity, and it's got to stop somewhere." Mr. Tiernan said his group would pursue a trial on its lawsuit in hopes of halting government officials' participation in prayer breakfasts.
[Editorial Comment: The point here is not that the judge ruled properly but that the suit was ever filed. The fictitious constitutional doctrine of "separation of church and state" (fictitious because it is never mentioned in the Constitution) is being taken to the extreme where the only acceptable government policy is complete elimination of any mention or consideration of Christianity. This is not neutrality; it is active hostility. There are numerous, well-financed zealots pushing this attack throughout our governments including the "Freedom from Religion Foundation" mentioned above. Christians must be at least as zealous in being alert to and defending our religious rights as others are in attacking them.]
