CBF $ Shortfall, SBC Increase
by T. C. Pinckney Vol. XXI, No. 3, March 2008
Note: CBF data in the following article is from the December 2007 issue of Baptists Today.
At its October ‘07 meeting the Coordinating Council of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship received a report of sluggish contributions to CBF. For the CBF fiscal year ended 30 June 2007 donations amounted to just 86% of budget. Total revenue was $19,103,539; expenses $21,619,206. Much of the decrease was in undesignated funds: about $700,000 less than the previous year and continuing a three-year downward pattern.
CBF is changing its fiscal year to October through September, meaning that in 2007 July through September is a transition quarter. During that three month period giving rose somewhat to 91% of budget.
In contrast, SBC gifts through the Cooperative Program reached $205.7 million during the fiscal year spanning Oct. 1, 2006, to Sept. 30, 2007, while designated gifts, including the SBC's missions offerings, topped $204.9 million. CP gifts increased 2.55% during the year while designated gifts increased 7.09%.
During the last three months of 2007 SBC CP gifts were $49,731,723.42 or 5.03% ahead of the same period in 2006.
