Intact Families Matter
Vol. XII, No. 2, February 1999
Boys who grow up with no father in the home are twice as likely as boys in two-parent families to spend time in jail, regardless of income, educational level, or race according to government data analyzed by the Child Trends research center. Boys and girls who grow up in a household headed by a single mother are also five times more likely to live in poverty, more likely to drop out of school, and more likely to have babies out of wedlock.
