SOUTHEASTERN'S B.A. PROGRAM
by T. C. Pinckney Vol. IX, No. 2, February 1996
Many folks may not be aware that in the fall of 1994 the trustees of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC, established Southeastern Baptist Theological College to train men and women for ministry. Classes in the baccalaureate program began in January 1995, and during the fall 1995 semester 15 women and 87 men were enrolled. The college offers the last two years of the Bachelor of Arts degree. Southeastern Baptist Theological College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools through the college's relationship with the Seminary.
Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Vice-president for Academic Affairs, Russ Bush, lauded the formation of the college, saying, "The biblical studies major offered by the college will lay a sound academic and theological foundation which will benefit both students and professors. Undergraduate students entering the seminary will be prepared for advanced study and will have a base of biblical knowledge upon which our professors can build."
Paige Patterson, president of the seminary, said the addition of an undergraduate, biblical studies major and degree program should "allow Southeastern faculty more time to influence and train God's messengers with academic acumen and evangelistic energy so they can minister practically and prophetically in a lost world which needs the saving message of Jesus Christ."
Prerequisite to entering the bachelor's program is an associate of arts degree or at least 58 hours from a regionally accredited college, Bible college, or university. Applications may be filed up to twelve months early but should be received in the Admissions Office at least 30 days prior to the matriculation day of the semester or summer term in which the student expects to begin. Housing requests are prioritized by the date of Admissions Committee action.
Note: It is important to submit your application early because there is a shortage of housing due to the rapid growth of the seminary and the college.
The college believes that as much as possible students should be self-supporting. However, financial assistance is available to supplement other student income, though the aid is not enough to cover all expenses. Assistance includes on-campus jobs, scholarships, and emergency assistance through loans and grants.
All questions about admissions policies or requirements should be directed to the Director of Admissions, SEBTS, Box 1889, Wake Forest, NC 27588.
