NPR Commentator Calls Christian Beliefs "crap"
Vol. IX, No. 2, February 1996
In a commentary on National Public Radio's All Things Considered aired 19 December, Andrei Codrescu said during a discourse on Christian theology, "The evaporation of four million (people) who believe in this crap would leave the world a better place." In a letter to the president of NPR, American Family Association president Donald E. Wildmon asked that NPR immediately fire Codrescu. NPR receives almost $300 million per year funding from the US Government (i.e., from your taxes). Wildmon wrote, "That Christians are forced to pay nearly $300 million a year to help promote this anti-Christian bigotry is a disgrace. He said that all tax support for public broadcasting should be ended and that public broadcast stations should have to raise their own funds as over 1000 Christian stations do.
