Presbyterians to Eliminate 125-175 Jobs
Vol. VI, No. 5, June 1993
Positions: The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is one step closer to major staff cuts on the national level, with the announcement that between 125 and 175 jobs will be cut from the national bureaucracy. The action was taken by the denomination's General Assembly Council which essentially kept intact a recommendation of a special committee, the Shape and Form Task Group, which had recommended an organizational revamping that included a $7 million cut in the church's projected budget. The recommended budget was voted at the church's General Assembly, 29 June in Orlando. The preceding budget was about $45 million. About 1,000 positions are now included in the national structure of the 2.9 million-member denomination. (RNS, Word & Way)
