The conservative movement in the Southern Baptist Convention for the last 15 years has been an answer to prayer. Miss Bertha Smith, godly Southern Baptist missionary to China, prayed in my presence in 1971 that God would turn our denomination back to its conservative roots. She prayed diligently for our colleges and seminaries. God answered her prayer and the prayers of thousands of others.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be nominated in Orlando for president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Conservatives across America plus the presidents of the Southern Baptist Convention since 1979, have asked me to allow my nomination.

If elected, I will be excited to continue in the leadership direction provided by Adrian Rogers, Charles Stanley, Jerry Vines, and the other presidents since 1979. It is with humility and absolute dependence on God that I face this possibility.

It is very important that we go to Orlando and take our messengers with us. We cannot assume anything as we ask God to continue leadingour convention in its present direction.

I need your prayers and support as we face the days ahead. God's richest blessings on you and yours.
