FAITH Evangelism Training Clinic
Vol. XII, No. 1, January 1999
First Baptist Church in Norfolk will host a FAITH Evangelism Training Clinic on January 25-28, 1999. This is an excellent opportunity to train pastors, staff, and lay people in this new ministry of outreach evangelism from Lifeway Christian Resource Center, formerly the Baptist Sunday School Board. The FAITH clinic begins with registration on Monday, January 25, and concludes with practical on-the-job training on Thursday evening, January 28 as participants make visits using the FAITH outline taught during the clinic.
The structure of a FAITH clinic includes a banquet on Monday evening following an afternoon of introductions to the FAITH ministry for the local church. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday participants will be taught the FAITH Gospel outline, the how to's of this ministry, how to begin FAITH in the local church as well as completing a written review of the material and demonstrating knowledge of the FAITH outline. Wednesday evening is an opportunity to worship with the congregation of the host church. During visitation on Thursday evening participants will be expected to share the gospel using the FAITH outline.
FAITH is a great opportunity for a church, regardless of size, to train its members in a very soft, non-confrontational approach to the gospel. FAITH Teams are compose of 3 persons, all from the same Sunday School class or department, and visits are made only to prospects for that class or department. In addition to prospect visitation, FAITH teams will be expected to make ministry visits to members of their class or department. It is through this type of visit that many church members can be reclaimed and the back door of the church can be closed.
Unlike other very good evangelistic training programs, FAITH:
• has a gospel outline which can easily be memorized
• is much more logical in structure for a Southern Baptist Church
• brings outreach into the Sunday School where it belongs and keeps it before the members
• can be adapted to any size church and any time frame
• is contagious - once you try it you will be convinced that it can work in your church
