SBCV Executive Committee Meeting
by Doyle Chauncey Vol. IX, No. 10, Nov/Dec 1996
Executive Director
The Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia held its first meeting since the organization formed a new state convention in Virginia affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The meeting was held on Thursday, November 14, at the Missionary Learning Center of the SBC Foreign Mission Board, located in Rockville.
Members of the Committee and officers of the convention received a report from the Transition Team appointed at the last Annual Meeting. The Team met October 31 to elect a chairman and organize into work groups: (1) Vision and purpose, (2) Location and facilities, (3) Personnel and staff, (4) Programs and activities, (5) Communications and public relations, (6) Constitution and Bylaws. The Transition Team will bring back its preliminary report to the Executive Committee at the next scheduled meeting on February 26.
Other significant matters of business before the Executive Committee included:
1. A contract with the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention was approved and signed which will provide retirement and survivor benefits for eligible pastors and staff of SBCV churches beginning January 1, 1997.
2. A survey form to be mailed to all contributing SBCV churches was approved in order to determine a church's present alignment status with the SBCV and the BGAV.
3. A policy statement was approved which states that the SBCV will NOT promise nor discourage local SBCV churches from forming conservative local associations since associations are autonomous organizations apart from the slate convention.
